Health & Education Standing Committee
Public health, education, sports, cultural affairs, and social welfare are among the key responsibilities of this committee, along with monitoring and development of these sectors.
Main Responsibilities of the Health and Education Standing Committee:
1. Activities in the Health Sector:
Management of health institutions: Ensure the proper functioning of Primary Health Centres (PHCs), Family Health Centres (FHCs), and hospitals.
Disease prevention activities: Organize preventive measures to control communicable diseases, cleanliness drives, and awareness classes.
Maternal and child care: Implement nutrition distribution and health schemes for pregnant women and children.
Drinking water and waste management: Ensure availability of safe drinking water and supervise scientific waste management systems.
2. Activities in the Education Sector:
Development of educational institutions: Improve infrastructure (buildings, toilets, libraries, etc.) of pre-primary, upper primary, and high school institutions under the local body.
Quality assurance: Plan and implement programs to improve academic standards in schools.
Educational promotion: Monitor distribution of learning materials, scholarships, and mid-day meal programs.
3. Other Related Responsibilities:
Sports and culture: Promote sports training programs for children and youth, library functioning, and cultural activities.
Welfare activities: Improve the functioning of anganwadis and implement special support schemes for children with disabilities.
Project planning: Prepare annual projects related to the above sectors and ensure their proper implementation.
